Governor Brown vetoed SB1157, but the fight is not over!

Sep 30, 2016 |

Dear Supporters,

We are disappointed to let you know that today, Governor Brown vetoed SB 1157, threatening incarcerated people and their loved ones’ rights to meaningful in-person visitation.

While we are saddened by the Governor’s failure to protect in-person visitation, we know that our effort to make in-person visitation accessible for family members and their incarcerated loved ones isn’t over. Nothing that happened today has eliminated the very real and urgent need to ensure that all incarcerated people are able to successfully reenter their communities post-release, with the support and love of family and friends.

We also want to extend our thanks specifically to all of the family members and loved ones who came in person or who testified in person at committee hearings – the fight is NOT over!!
