On July 13, Miami-Dade State Attorney Rundle responded to our petition appealing to her to allow independent testing of the evidence in the Darren Rainey case. She passed the buck, saying the decision was entirely in the hands of the Medical Examiner. This is disputable, but what is indisputable is that the very next day a federal court said that tissue samples from Mr. Rainey had to be given to his family, who will of course give them to an independent pathologist for testing.
The family is suing Corizon, the health care provider at Dade Correctional when Mr. Rainey died, and two prison guards who were present in the unit when he died. These three parties will also get tissue samples.
There is still a possibility of justice for Darren Rainey. We’ll keep you posted.
