My boyfriend has been incarcerated for about 20 years now. We’ve known each other for 13 of those years.
I am very familiar with the collect calls and how expensive they can be. I was spending 200-300 a month before. Now they do the prepaid calling and it’s really no better. I have heard and seen people do all kinds of things out of desperation to be in touch with their loved ones. Including using 3rd party calling and getting cell phones with the prison area codes to make calls cheaper. I think it is ridiculous what people must even go through to keep in touch. I always believed that being able to talk to family and friends kept a prisoner sane and out of trouble. Although I don’t know if I believe that is the goal of the prison system. Everything they do is about the almight dollar and them trying to cash in on our loved ones….
