My Husband Being in Prison

Sep 23, 2020 | Online Submission

“No one should be told that their love is too expensive.”
An affected single mother speaks out against the high cost of phone calls to her incarcerated husband. This is particularly worrisome, because he already suffers from issues with his health. The inability to communicate has left her feeling helpless and frustrated.

My son’s father has been in prison for nearly six years and the phones calls have been massively expensive. It’s gotten the point where they’ve blocked my account and the fee is $11.95 with Securus to send [a call] out to Texas. Any amount I put [in], it’s still a high fee. We try everything and with him being sick with his condition, we have no way to talk to him because of how expensive the phone calls are.

“No one should be told that their love is too expensive.”

I’m a single mother taking care of our child and he’s five hours away from us. We are hurt from the cost of phone calls. No one should be told that their love is too expensive. I think these companies should be banned, they should be punished by not being allowed to talk to their loved ones. That’s all.

I’m from Florida. I still have five years [before my husband is released]. It’s not fair.
