Groups from across the political spectrum join together in a letter to the FCC urging the Commission to cap interstate prison phone rates.

Today, a diverse group of organizations and individuals from across the political spectrum jointly submitted a letter to Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski, asking the FCC to act on the Wright Petition, pending before the FCC since 2003. Liberal and Conservative groups alike stand united on the issue of fair prison phone rates, noting that “the exorbitant rates paid by prisoners’ families [to make interstate phone calls] increase recidivism, and place an undue and unfair burden upon the innocent.”

Clarissa Ramon from Public Knowledge expands on the issue.
